This year I was put in the position to choose between the options that were available for Professional Context 3. As soon as I seen that I have to choose between Motion , Print and Web design; I immediately knew what is the best for me. I chose the web design option as it was a field that I wasn’t so experienced on and by the end of this year I wanted to make the most of my university experience.
This module was one of the most challenging modules during third year as I didn’t knew much coding and I basically had to start everything from sketch. In the first part of this year we had some web design classes that were really helpful as they explained everything so that even a 8-year old would understand. Every week we had a homework were we had to reproduce some of the techniques learned the previews week. I found this really helpful because if we had just the information and didn’t had to use it we will forget what we were told really fast.
For my design I went for an one page design as I found this type quite common these days. I wanted to make a flawless design , therefore I created my website with a theme were the top page starts in the clouds / galaxy and as you scroll down we go back on earth and even underground. My portfolio holds some basic information about myself , example for work , contact details and last but not least a shop section. I previous want it to be more responsive but as my laptop was stolen earlier this year I lost all my data, but this didn’t stop me to create more design for various websites.
The information that I learned from Procon 3 I used it in my internship experience were I had to design a live website. As this was my first internship I was unexperienced on how to approach this new brief. But as soon as I seen that the company that I work for is really open and free with the design that I can produce things went smoothly. For this website I went with a similar theme as the company is a web hosting that uses cloud service I used the same technique were the front page starts within the clouds and as you scroll down to the footer we get to the mountains.
Beside this I also had to create a strong online presence and I started by updating my accounts on different social platforms. At first I started by creating a Facebook page that would have all my work on. As soon as I updated my first video to Facebook I realised that I need a account were my videos will be in high quality. Therefore I created a Vimeo account that I’ve been using as a second link for my videos , I found this platform really useful and professional. I also started blogging on Tumblr regarding my progress on several projects, be that university of freelance. Another website that I made a significant presence is Pinteres where at the moment 985 pins and 94 followers, I found this website rely useful in finding inspiration for my work. I also updated my Instagram account were I started to post photos that are more relevant to me as a designer. My Behance profile has been updated with work recently and as soon as I did that I started to get more followers. Similar thing happened when I started tweeting more on twitter. Other websites that I’ve been present for several years are Deviantart , Artflakes and recently Dribble.
Last but not least my only presence is outlined with my portfolio website. As google analytics shows this website has approximately 300 visit per month. That isn’t that much but with the skills that I learned from Professional Context this year I know that my online presence will get significantly higher.
